The Family - An Eternal Unit

With the challenge in America to preserve the family as the union of a man and a woman (as God ordained), I was warmed when I came across this picture I took while working in the museum two years ago. Spencer W. Kimball spoke these words sometime between 1973 and 1985 while serving as the President of the LDS church and revered as the Prophet. Neal A. Maxwell, a member of the twelve apostles died in 2004 . Their words are preserved in stitchery and remind us of the sanctity of the family and the role of women. May our nation turn to the God who gives us our freedom.

Neal Maxwell's quote is pretty hard to read. Here is what it says: "When the real history of mankind is fully disclosed, will it feature the echoes of gunfire or the shaping sound of lullabies?...Will what happened in cradles and kitchen prove to be more controlling than what happened in congresses? When the surf of the centuries has made the pyramids so much sand, the everlasting family will still be standing, because it is a celestial institution, formed outside telestial time. The women of God know this."

What a great quote by Elder Maxwell. I miss him for how well he spoke and the doctrinal insight he had every time he opened his mouth. A good reminder for me with my small children--the every day things that I do make a difference in their eternities.
